HAVE YOURSELF A CLASSY LITTLE CHRISTMAS ❄︎

TEAM MAGPIE ARE HERE TO HELP YOU PREPARE FOR A CLASSY CHRISTMAS WITH OUR STEP BY STEP NAIL ART TUTORIALS

Magpie Brand Ambassador, Natalia Nicholson (@natalia_nicholson_nails) provides all of the elegant festive feels, with her gorgeous abstract set. Natalia created her design by using a base of GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY gel colour. Then she used the STRIPER BRUSH to create abstract block tips of BELLA ROUGE gel colour and WHITE GEL PAINT PLUS. Next Natalia added shimmer lines of CROWN JULES using the STRIPER BRUSH, then added holly leaf details of GREEN, BLACK & RED GEL PAINT, using the DETAILER BRUSH and DOTTING TOOL. Finally, she finished withWHITE GEL PAINT PLUS prints and LIKE A DIAMOND top coat.

Milk bath nails have been a massive hit this year, so we know everyone will love Brand Ambassador, Adelina Walker’s (@hellobeautifulnailbar) beautiful frosted milk bath design. Adelina shares her easy chrsitmas nail art steps below:

❤︎ Apply an even layer of GET A GRIP CLOUD base coat and cure for 60 seconds.

❤︎ Wipe the surface of the nail using a lint free wipe and PREP & DEHYDRATE, add your desired snowflake 140 STCIKERS using the EARL ROYAL TOOL, press them firmly using the end of your SILICONE TOOL.

❤︎ Next encapsulate the whole nail in an even layer of GIVE ME STRENGTH CLEAR and cure for 60 seconds.

❤︎ Apply an even layer of FRESH AS A DAISY gel polish and cure for 60 seconds. Wipe the nail using a LINT FREE WIPE and PREP & DEHYDRATE and add your final 140 STICKERS in gold.

❤︎ Apply a generous layer of LIKE A DIAMOND top coat and once cured and wipe with CLEANSER.

Brand Ambassador Rebekah Pritchard (@thebeautyspotstreetly) used the following products to create her stunning embossed chrome Christmas nail art design:

❤︎ BUILD ME UP BUFF
❤︎ VELVET TOP

❤︎ GMS  & TOP IT OFF

Magpie Educator Amanda Byrne (@amanda_byrne_nailartist) used a base of GET A GRIP PINK and PERFECT POLY ACRYGEL ROSÈ for her classy red and white Christmas set. Then she added stars, French tips and cuffs, with the RED and WHITE GEL PAINTS using the STRIPER and DETAILER BRUSHES. Finally, Amanda added details using the DOTTING TOOL, capped with GMS and finished with TOP IT OFF CLEAR.

Character nail art can be extra daunting for technicians during the busy Christmas period. Magpie Educator, Lynsey Urquhart (@sparklenailsbylynsey) breaks down her amazing Mickey Mouse Christmas character, and shares her snowflake design step by steps below.

ALL FOILED UP

DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH FREEHAND NAIL ART OR FOIL APPLICATION? CHECK OUT TEAM MAGPIES TOP FOIL TIPS & INSPIRING SETS BELOW  ❤︎

Torties have taken over the nail industry this year. It’s a gorgeous style but can be time consuming and tricky for techs to master.  Thanks to one of Magpie’s latest foil releases, DONATELLO, tortoise shell has never been so easy! Brand Ambassador Jess Kemp @jessrosebeauty takes us step by step through her simply stunning torties:

❤︎ Paint base of FULL FOILED – cure 120 seconds.

❤︎ Apply DONATELLO  foil. Secure with a layer of GMS – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Apply 2 coats of BROWN JELLIE – cure 60 seconds in between each layer.

❤︎ Randomly splodge BLACK BETTY on top – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ TOP COAT – cure 60 seconds.

Magpie Educator Mandy Reid @bossnailsmandy creates a classy twist using KAA foil paired with NOVEMBER glitter. We are drooling over these..

First Mandy painted a base of BMU BUFF then COME WHAT MAY curing for 60 seconds in between each layer. Then used JUNGLE JANE to create lines down the centre of nail using the STRIPER BRUSH, cured, and wiped away the tacky layer with PREP & DEHYDRATE. Next she went over the green lines with FULL FOILED, cured and applied KAA. Mandy mixed NOVEMBER glitter with GMS clear and faded with the striper brush, cured, and capped whole design in clear GMS. Finally she applied TOP IT OFF to finish.

We love Brand Ambassador, Nicola Dannatt @redcarpetnailbotique‘s leopard print design using PRINCE foil. You can recreate her design by following these simple step by steps:

❤︎ Apply 2 layers of JAZZY JO – cure 60 seconds each layer.

❤︎ Wipe over the nail with PREP & DEHYDRATE to remove tacky layer from colour.

❤︎ Create random circular shapes on the nail for the base of your leopard print with FULL FOILED – cure 120 seconds.

❤︎ Apply foil PRINCE to the areas you applied FULL FOILED.

❤︎ Apply 1 even layer of GMS clear to entire nail – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Wipe over with PREP & DEHYDRATE to remove any tacky layer, then apply 1 even layer of VELVET TOP – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Using BLACK GEL PAINT + and the PREMIUM DETAILER 6 BRUSH, create leopard print outlines – cure 60 seconds.

Brand Ambassador Adelina Walker @hellobeautifulnailbar stuns with her vintage design. Adelina used a base of NUDE JUDE, then applied random stickers from sheets 082, 102, 097, 099 on a cleansed surface using PREP & DEHYDRATE. To encapsulate the stickers she used GMS clear. Then painted FULL FOILED in sections and after a 120 second cure she applied MILO and PRINCE foils. Encapsulation is key to long lasting layered designs, so GMS clear was used again straight after. To add some chrome details, Adelina used BLACK GEL PAINT, STRIPER BRUSH, SILICONE TOOL & SOFT DUSTER BRUSH. To finish Adelina topped with LIKE A DIAMOND in a generous layer.

Magpie Educator Sophie Hudd shares how she created her fantastic foil set:

❤︎ Apply base of GET A GRIP PINK and GMS clear, cure for 60 seconds in between.

❤︎ Remove tacky layer using  PREP & DEHYDRATE and buff using 240 BUFFER.

❤︎ Paint stars using DETAILER BRUSH and FULL FOILED – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Apply SUE – HELEN, PEGGY – SUE & JOEY foils to the stars.

❤︎ Encapsulate using GMS clear – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Top coat using VELVET TOP – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Top coat stars using TOP IT OFF – cure 60 seconds.

MEET OUR LATEST MAGPIE BA: SARA CADY

HI SARA. WELCOME TO TEAM MAGPIE! ❤︎
PLEASE INTRODUCE YOURSELF AND TELL US ABOUT YOUR NAIL CAREER SO FAR…

I’m Sara Cady (@glamourphile) I’ve been in the industry since 2015. Nails have always been my passion and an artistic outlet. I love learning about the craft of nails, from nail science to nail art.

In the 2020 lockdown, I was able to reevaluate my career goals and practice my nail art skills. I was able to grow in skill and confidence. Entering my first nail championships, gaining my educators qualification, and pursuing the content creation path which led me to 30k TikTok followers and millions of views on my Tiktoks. I was able to achieve all my goals and more with my most recent of achievements: becoming a BA for Magpie.

On a more personal level I’m a mummy and a wife. I’m originally from Poland. I love long walks surrounded by nature, good food, great wine, travelling and escapism into my Xbox games. My favourite colour is black and when it comes to music I have a wide raging taste, from Ed Sheeran to Rise Against with a hint of Tony Matterhorn and a dash of Bruce Springsteen.

HOW DID YOU DISCOVER MAGPIE?

Through Anona (@nonaphilippa). I remember her first video review of Magpie glitters on YouTube. I knew I had to have them. From there my glitter collection began to slowly grow, and as the Magpie product range expanded so did my collection.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE NAIL ART STYLE TO CREATE?

I don’t have a particular nail art style I stick to as I enjoy stepping out of my comfort zone, but if I had to narrow down to the art I am the most comfortable with, it would have to be marble nails, chroming and opal nails.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PROFESSIONAL RANGE TO WORK with?

Gel. I was originally trained in acrylic, I have always been an acrylic girl but since discovering Magpie Gel I’m a convert! I love working with builder gel, I found it lasts beautifully on clients, even those with previously troublesome nail plates. The formula and viscosity of the Build Me Up products are so perfect, I now love working with gel.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP TIPS FOR GROWING A FOLLOWING ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

❤︎ Narrow down your niche.
❤︎ Be consistent without it being a burden.
❤︎ Provide content that gives some kind of value to your followers.
❤︎ Remember that you want to appeal to your audience, not to yourself.
❤︎ Don’t forget to be sociable, it’s called “social media” for a reason.

WHICH MAGPIE TECHNICIANS INSPIRE YOU IN THE NAIL INDUSTRY?

Oh wow, there have been so many over the past years but most recently definitely:

❤︎ Alice (@onenailtorulethemall) her designs are always so clean looking. Her art is finished to perfection and she proves to us all that you don’t need XL nails to rock amazing designs.

❤︎ Rebekah (@thebeautyspotstreetly) her designs are so unique and forward thinking. Her multi chrome Poseidon’s Trident nails are still my favourite, absolutely iconic.

❤︎ Terri (@terricopelandnails) one word MARBLES! Terri has absolutely perfected her technique, her work is goals. Cleanly executed, multidimensional marbling.

❤︎ Sylvia (@indiglownails) everything she creates is top class. Her imagination has no limits and her execution is flawless. Her Opal Trees nail art design is still one of my favourites, beautiful.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP FIVE MOST REACHED FOR MAGPIE PRODUCTS?

Only 5! That’s going to be tough to narrow down. I’ll give it a try.
❤︎ Give Me Strength – Clear
❤︎ Detailer Brush
❤︎ Black Gel Paint
❤︎ Winifred Chrome
❤︎ Soft Dust Brush

WHAT ARE YOUR NEXT NAIL CAREER GOALS?

I have recently passed my educators qualification so definitely: gaining teaching experience, furthering my own education and mentoring other passionate professionals. I always knew I wanted to eventually go into teaching to pass on my knowledge, and close the gaps I noticed when I first entered the industry.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MAGPIE NAIL ART RANGE TO WORK WITH?

For me it will always be flakes and chromes. They are super versatile. Chromes can be used to chrome, burnish, or to mix with GMS to create metallic paints. Flakes can be added to opals, rose quartz, marble or abstract designs to elevate the look to the next level. Chromes and flakes are must haves. Some of my absolute favourites are Elizabeth, Winifred and Audrey chromes as well as Marybelle, Petal and Nicolette flakes.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR NAIL TECHNICIANS WHO WANT TO BECOME BAs?

Let your Magpie love sparkle! It’s all about hard work, loyalty and supporting others. Let your authentic artistic self loose, show support to others and use #everythingmagpie ❤︎

Oh, and don’t stress! Embrace the journey to your goals.

Thank you Sara. We are delighted to have you on the team!

Much Love….

HALLOWEEN NAILS DATE

Get to know our Magpie Educators Anona Grice & Sinead Bulley who share their favourite Halloween nail products and top tips…

SineadHi, I’m Sinead, Magpie educator for Cambridgeshire. I’ve been in the nail industry for 12 years and I absolutely love it. I’ve won multiple awards over the years and been a finalist for many accolades, mostly for my mixed media nail art creations and photographic nail art.

I love being an educator for Magpie as it’s the perfect role to help me pass on my passion for Magpie products and nail skills to help others achieve in the industry. It makes me so proud to see my students work.

I have always loved Halloween from a young age. I think what really got me into it was watching the nightmare before Christmas when I was little. I always loved Tim burton films – anything that was a little weird or different, so I think it’s developed from that. This year I’ve gone extra crazy with the decorations and done a Halloween tree!

Halloween treeI get lots of my inspiration from Pinterest for Halloween nails ideas. If I find cool background pictures I’ll always save them to create an idea from, sometimes Halloween decorations and from other amazing nail techs too.

I price Halloween nail art by how much longer the design will take me to do. Things that are quicker like glitter, flakes etc may only take 10/15 mins extra cost £5, anything more intricate will cost more. You have to make it worth your while and charge for your time.

For my Halloween nails design on Anona, we very loosely gave each other a theme but pretty much had free reign within this, Anona chose ‘Witchy’ so I found a background picture on Pinterest which I really loved so took elements from there and applied them to the nail.

Sinead’s Halloween Nails step by steps:

❤︎ Paint a base layer of GMS Peach – do not cure. Dot BEA HAPPY, POISON IVY, MRS MULBERRYDENIM JEAN in a line on MIXING PALETTE. Using the OMBRÉ BRUSH, scoop underneath all the colours. Drag the brush (mix facing up) onto the wet nail moving from side to side sliding the gel onto the nail to create swirls. Once happy with your swirls cure for 60 seconds.

❤︎ Apply pieces of BLACK & LAVENDER LEAF to areas of the nail’s tacky layer – flash cure 10 seconds to secure in place. Then coat with GMS CLEAR and cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Wipe off tacky layer using PREP & DEHYDRATE liquid, buff over using 240 BUFFER and wipe with PREP & DEHYDRATE liquid to ensure clean surface for painting.

Anona Grice - expert in Halloween nailsHi, I’m Anona Grice, Magpie Educator for Hertfordshire & North London, I’m better known as NonaPhilippa from Youtube and Instagram.

I’ve been doing nails for 8 years which all started with my love of art! I started using Magpie in 2015 and become one of the first Brand Ambassadors and then became an Educator in 2019.

My favourite Halloween film has to be Hocus Pocus! I’m not into scary films but anything to do with witches is my thing. I loved the film growing up and can recite the script word for word! I watch it all the way through the year and my favourite quote is “what a glorious morning…makes me sick!”

I knew Sinead was a Tim Burton Fan and loved the movies Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride, so I found some inspiration pictures on Pinterest and loved the idea of having each hand a different colour.

For Halloween nail ideas I always love Magpie Educator Amanda Byrne’s Halloween design nails she hand paints a lot of characters like me so I’m always amazed at what she does. Plus Sinead also creates amazing sets too.

BLACK BETTY gel colour along with BlOODY MARY Magpie really are the best base colours for Halloween art. I have loved using SABRINA for black Halloween nails – with it being matte black it adds a great sparse effect. I also use WINIFRED, MORTICIAN and URSULA a lot this time of year too. The duo-chrome effect gives a fantastic spooky feeling. The NAIL ART STICKERS 146, 147 are a must-have too! The new glow in the dark range has made it so easy this year – my clients have loved them!halloween nails blue and green

Anona’s Halloween Nails step by step:

❤︎ Apply ALOE VERA and BLUE SKY as base colours – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Topcoat using VELVET TOP – flash cure 10 seconds.

❤︎ Add BABY & CRUELLA pigments to the cuticle area and free edge – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Cap using GIVE ME STRENGTH gel – cure 60 seconds.

❤︎ Paint graveyard scenes using BLACK GEL PAINT and DETAILER BRUSH.

❤︎ Finish with LIKE A DIAMOND top coat – cure 60 seconds. Wait to cool then CLEANSE.

ASHGATE SPARKLE WALK 2021

To say Ashgate hospice holds a special place in Magpie Beauty’s heart is an understatement.  Unfortunately, many will know how special hospice care is, with first-hand experience too.
Anyone who knows the Magpie family will know that they lost Mr Magpie’s (Damien Shakespeare) parents at this hospice, and within the last 12 months, Mrs Magpie (Sarah Shakespeare) lost her Nan and her Mum at the hospice too.Sparklewalk 2021
One of Sarah’s goals and dreams has always been to sponsor the Ashgate Hospice sparkle walk, a big event for the local hospice close to Magpie HQ. Magpie proudly sponsored the t-shirts and medals for the event this year, 2021.
TEAM MAGPIE are incredibly proud of Sarah – her kindness, helpfulness and support for so many amazing charities, as well as her team, has been absolutely outstanding and inspirational, throughout an exceptionally tough time.
As a family and a company, Sarah and Damien get so much pleasure from giving back to their local community. They proudly support their local football and cycling teams too.
